Vice President, Nursing Integration

Our roots began in 1981 as the Montrose Clinic, with specialization in HIV education, testing, and treatment. Since then, the agency has expanded to 10 clinics in Houston, one in Baytown, two in Beaumont, and one in Deer Park with extensive services that include: Adult primary care, HIV/AIDS care, pediatrics, OB/GYN and maternity, dental, vision and behavioral health. We also service students within KIPP and YES Prep schools. Legacy is committed to driving healthy change in our communities.


Job Description

The Vice President, Nursing Integration will support Legacy Community Health Services’ (Legacy’s)  mission and goals by developing, implementing and overseeing a clinical support model for patient care delivery.  This role will be responsible for creating an efficient, evidence-based, performance and outcomes driven model of care provided by and through nurses and medical assistants.  The VP, Nursing Integration will establish the model of care to achieve standardization, acceptance and implementation across Legacy. 

Essential Functions

  • Builds an effective clinical support model for patient care delivery to support quality performance throughout Legacy Community Health clinics and the community.
  • Recommends appropriate staffing to implement the model to achieve the desired outcomes as measured by productivity, quality and safety metrics.  
  • Gains support of the model and the staff/staff duties needed to satisfy the established goals, guidelines and metrics.  
  • Responsible for sharing information and data to support provide evidence of the model’s success or recommends modifications as needed.
  • Provides oversight of the nursing roles with a goal of assisting in functions and reducing the work performed by, but not requiring, the highest level of licensure
  • Recommends nursing staffing models to support the patient care delivery model developed using benchmarks and data to support
    • Identifies, monitors and addresses  patient safety, medication safety and quality outcomes
    • Collaborates with service line medical directors on specialty specific care needs and concerns
  • Oversees compliance with Texas Board of Nursing rules and regulations
  • Supports and provides oversight for the development of a hiring tool for nurses and medical assistants to ensure competent and trained staff are identified balancing competence with interpersonal fit which can be identified through observation and turnover rates
  • Identifies, plans and implements  educational and training activities to address safety, competency, etc. concerns
  • Participates in Legacy satisfying the PCMH requirements, including education necessary, to maintain PCMH recognition in the Legacy clinics currently PCMH certified and develop a tool to measure the readiness of additional Legacy clinics  for PCMH certification
    • Responsible for and oversee compliance with the PCMH requirements
    • Assists, upon request, with applications and/or certification requirements for PCMH recognition
  • Supports Legacy Human Resources and the Occupational Health role in providing information as needed to manage Exposure Control and Hazard Communications Plans
  • Provides nursing clinical expertise and guidance for Vaccine for Children (“VFC”)/immtrac compliance. 
  • Oversees  Legacy’s information technology department and site leadership’s understanding of the information that must be managed for such VFC and Immtrac compliance
  • Manages Legacy’s nursing resources to create a culture focused on patient safety, superior clinical outcomes, as well as continuous quality and performance improvement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Education & Training Requirements   

  • Active license in the State of Texas as Registered Nurse, Required
  • Master’s Degree  in Nursing required

Work Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of 7 years of RN leadership in hospital or healthcare system with a proven record of success
  • Must possess strong leadership qualities and initiative
  • Strong conflict-resolution skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Demonstrated experience in managing others in a hospital unit or clinic setting
