Sr. Director - Staff Attorney (Contract Management)

Our roots began in 1981 as the Montrose Clinic, with specialization in HIV education, testing, and treatment. Since then, the agency has expanded to 10 clinics in Houston, one in Baytown, two in Beaumont, and one in Deer Park with extensive services that include: Adult primary care, HIV/AIDS care, pediatrics, OB/GYN and maternity, dental, vision and behavioral health. We also service students within KIPP and YES Prep schools. Legacy is committed to driving healthy change in our communities.

 

Position Summary:

The Senior Director – Staff Attorney (Contract Management) establishes and implements the processes necessary to foster compliance throughout Legacy Community Health Services (Legacy) with respect to documents obligating Legacy including, but not limited to, contracts, agreements, memorandums of understanding, leases, and letters of intent (collectively, “Contract(s)”).  This Senior Director – Staff Attorney serves as the focal point for coordinating and communicating with other Legacy departments regarding Contracts and is responsible for risk identification related to Contracts This position also provides assistance to Legacy’s Human Resources (HR) department for labor and employment issues, upon request.

Essential Duties & Functions:

  • Responsible for all aspects of Legacy’s Contract management, which may include, but is not limited to, creating, drafting, negotiating, overseeing approvals and execution, managing, handling, storing and renewals of Legacy’s Contracts.
  • Developing a Contract approval process and procedure to promote review and Contract sign off by internal stakeholders prior to execution of Contracts.
  • Researching and implementing a Contract management software or system that will assist with maintaining Contracts and tracking Contract renewals and other Contract obligations.
  • Interpreting and providing advice on Contract provisions and obligations.
  • Collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team for Contract input, when indicated.
  • Providing guidance and assisting in the identification, implementation and maintenance of Legacy information in addition to Contracts such as policies and procedures.
  • Initiates, facilitates and promotes activities to foster Contract awareness. 
  • Available as a consultant for staff questions/concerns related to Contracts and HR issues.
  • Interpreting and providing advice on employment laws, including, but not limited to, wage and hour laws, workplace safety, disability leave laws, workplace environment, harassment, employee discrimination, and wrongful discharge.
  • Assists with managing outside HR attorneys, upon request.
  • Attend required meetings, including committee/project meetings, as requested. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Certifications, Licenses, & Training (minimum requirements)

  • Juris Doctorate degree, Texas legal licensure in good standing

Required Years of Experience (minimum requirements)

  • A minimum of five (5) years’ legal experience

Desirable Education and/or Experience:

  • Prior experience in healthcare desirable
  • Prior experience in a community healthcare setting desirable.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)

  • Has a working knowledge of Contract concepts
  • Able to work collaboratively across the business, operational and clinical levels.
  • Ability to establish clear and concise communications in writing and in speaking.
