Medical Laboratory Technician - Regional

Our roots began in 1981 as the Montrose Clinic, with specialization in HIV education, testing, and treatment. Since then, the agency has expanded to 10 clinics in Houston, one in Baytown, two in Beaumont, and one in Deer Park with extensive services that include: Adult primary care, HIV/AIDS care, pediatrics, OB/GYN and maternity, dental, vision and behavioral health. Job Description

The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for overseeing various laboratory tests/procedures as assigned in their region. “Regional” entails of this position being required to work over their region. They will be support for their managers and will have about 100+ indirect reports each. Uses critical thinking skills and deals with issue resolution concerning the day-to-day technical operation of the laboratories.

Essential Functions

  • Adheres to the laboratory's quality control policies, documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed;
  • Follows the laboratory's established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance;
  • Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notifies their manager;
  • Ensures all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications are documented. Coaches testing personnel in their respective region when deviations occur;
  • Ensures knowledge and adherence to Legacy Community Health policies and procedures;
  • Serves as the regional subject matter expert (SME) for CLIA Waived, Provider Performed Microscopy, and Moderate complexity testing for their assigned territory
  • Participates in onsite inspections held by regulatory agencies;
  • Maintains records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples;
  • Assists the Laboratory Manager with performing training and competency assessments for the staff members in their assigned region;
  • Gains/maintains functional knowledge of system computers as required by job assignment;
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to others; and
  • Must be able to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize
  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail, resolve problems and identify client, department and agency needs
  • Ability to work with clinical staff, work well under pressure, and multitask within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience with HIPAA and the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) philosophy including planning, implementation and monitoring, abiding by rules and regulations
  • Ability to make formal presentations, educate and support staff learning and information needs at a level normally acquired through further training
  • Ability to communicate professionally in a verbal and written manner
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & Training Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Medical Technology or Laboratory Science and documentation of clinical laboratory training, or experience in waived and moderate-complexity testing
  • MLT (ASCP) preferred.

Work Experience 

  • One year work experience in waived and/or moderate-complexity testing.
  • Must be able to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize
