Payment Posting Coordinator

Our roots began in 1981 as the Montrose Clinic, with specialization in HIV education, testing, and treatment. Since then, the agency has expanded to 50+ clinics in Houston, one in Baytown, two in Beaumont, and one in Deer Park with extensive services that include: Adult primary care, HIV/AIDS care, pediatrics, OB/GYN and maternity, dental, vision and behavioral health. Job Description

The core responsibilities of the Payment Poster are to accurately and efficiently enter remittance information (payments, adjustments and denials) provided from the insurance carriers.

Essential Functions

  • On a daily basis, the payment poster is expected to accurately read and interpret the explanation of benefits (EOB) from different insurance payers and post payments to patient encounters with minimal or no error rate.
  • Demonstrate the ability to make adjustments as necessary when payment posting for Medicare, Medicaid, contracted PPOS and other insurances.
  • Accurately process patient payments sent via mail within a 3 day turnaround.
  • Follows proper procedures and in a timely fashion, notify the Supervisor of any underpayments and payment discrepancies for research.
  • Responsible for balancing batches assigned to them via the Practice Management System and the daily posting of these batches. Report any batch issues to their immediate manager and/or supervisor for prompt resolution.
  • Collaborates with teammates to insure that our departmental close for each month is met within the first five business days of the following month.
  • Works closely with other team members to resolve patient issues.
  • Productivity falls within acceptable departmental guidelines established by management; employee consistently strives to exceed expectations.
  • Employee demonstrates initiative in reviewing company policies to ensure appropriate steps are taken when complicated posting situations arise and in keeping error ratio low.
  • Perform any additional and/or miscellaneous duties (not inclusive of job description) as requested by the management team within the scope of their knowledge and ability.
  • Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, specific job–related hazards.
  • Attends all required safety education programs.
  • Operates assigned equipment and performs all procedures in a safe manner as instructed.
  • Maintains work area and equipment in condition required by Legacy standards.
  • Demonstrates proper body mechanics in all functions.
  • Checks on the patient’s environment and equipment to insure safety. Reports safety concerns promptly to appropriate personnel.
  • Follows Legacy’s exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of techniques, procedures and correct use of protective barrier equipment (Universal Precautions).
  • Assures a safe environment by instituting appropriate control measures.
  • Attends annual education programs.

Education & Training Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Work Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in posting medical payments is required. Must have working knowledge in interpreting explanation of benefits from various insurances, medical terminology, and insurance billing.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of medical billing experience preferred.
  • Some training or background in ICD-A / CPT codes preferred.
  • Strong data entry skills, ability to input a high volume of information.
  • Proficient 10 key skills, subject to testing.
  • Ability to perform simple analysis and discuss with Manager/Directors/VP.
  • Ability to understand and practice bookkeeping and accounting terminology required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and billing practices preferred.
  • Ability to operate computers and other office machines required.
  • Must be able to take responsibility and work under pressure
